Below you will find some helpful information about
registering, pre-designed templates for your business ads,
as well as some tips and guidelines for graphics that you
may want to used for your ad.
Before you can create an ad for your business simply fill
out the registration form (shown below). There are a few
details that you'll want to consider.
The registration form is a multi-purpose form. It serves
to provide us registration information for both individuals
and business users. Please see the below example for how to
best fill in the information for your particular business.
You may want to have the "Contact" name (circled in
red below on the Reply to Ad form) that appears on
your ad be a department name or the name of your business,
rather than an individual's name depending on the type and
size of your business. See the diagram below.
The information you enter in the First name and Last name
fields on the registration form, WILL automatically
appear and display as the Contact on the Reply to Ad form
(circled in red on the Reply to Ad section of your ad). The
email address that you enter on the registration form does
not display on the site but is used by our script to send
you emails from potential customers. It is the email address
that emails are sent to from the Reply to Ad section of your
ad. (See the Reply to Ad - eMail Feature section below for
more details.)

The phone number entered on the registration form shown
above is for
our internal purposes only and DOES NOT display on
the ad detail pages. Space is provided for local, toll free,
and fax numbers on the ad creation form.
Your new business ad has an email feature that enables
potential customers with the ability to "Reply to Ad" (shown
above), and email you directly
from your ad. The email address that you provided in the
above registration form does not display to visitors to the site, but is used by our
script to send the email to you. You may want to
consider using a department or company email address for this
purpose rather than the email address of the person who may
be filling out the registration form and/or purchasing the ad.
After you have completed your registration, you are ready
for the next step, creating your business ad.
Note: Most businesses will create their ads in one
or more sub-categories of the All Business section, however a
few exceptions come to mind. For example, an automobile
dealer may have an ad in one of the All Business
sub-categories that promotes the dealership plus could have
one or more individual ads in the Autos category,
advertising specific vehicles. Both individuals as well as
auto dealers can advertise in the Autos category.
Real
Estate is another similar category; where the realtor may
advertise the business in one of the All Business
sub-categories and have one or more individual ads for
specific properties. Also see the Promotions
page for a current list of our promotions and bonuses.
Note: Be sure to save your ad
before leaving this page otherwise your ad will not be
created for editing later.
After completing the previous step you will be
brought to the Member Index page which displays all of your
ads. Select the new ad from your list of ads in the Member
Index to add images and other details. From the Member Index page you can perform a number of
operations relating to each one of your ads. You are able
to:
- Make your ad Featured (optional) - For a nominal fee your ad is
made to stand out from the rest! Your ad is displayed
with a highlighted background on all search results and
browse pages. Your ad gets top placement on browse pages, and is
featured randomly on the Wanted In Boston home page for
optimal exposure.
- Edit or Delete your ad - You have the flexibility to
change and modify your ad at any time.
- Add images to your ad - The number of images that
you are allowed to upload may vary depending upon the
package that you purchased. For more information about
recommended image sizes see the section on Graphics.
- View your ad - You can view and manage all of your
ads easily from the Member Index page at any time, just
simply login to the site.
- View the number of hits - From the member
index you can also view the number of hits or page views
your ad has received.
All of the ads in the "All Business" section of Wanted In
Boston have a special field labeled Wanted In Boston. The
field is located at the top of your ad and is HTML enabled.
That means you are allowed to insert and use HTML inside of
this field in order to format and create a compelling ad
with graphics to promote your business. Note: For security
reasons, Javascript, or any other server and client side
scripting languages are strictly prohibited from being used
here.
Follow this link to our
Business Ad Templates where you will find a number of sample templates with
slightly different layouts which you can simply cut and
paste into your favorite html editor, change the placeholder
images and text with your own and be up and running in no
time. You have several options for editing content in the
field labeled Wanted In Boston.
- Use one of the templates provided and edit the
images and content.
- Code the html from scratch, or simply enter text
into the field.
- Modify one of the templates in an HTML editor then
cut and paste into the Wanted In Boston field.
- Use the Visual Editor to do all the formatting for
you. Currently this feature is not yet available but
will be soon.
Note: With the visual editor not being immediately
available and many small to medium sized businesses may
not have experience with HTML, or internal resources to size,
and edit
images for their ads; Wanted In Boston will provide
assistance in this area. You can also take a look at our
Resources
page for a list of tools and reference materials that may be
of use to you, especially if you are looking for low or no
cost options.
